Want to play a role in supporting software that enables democratic participation and community building?

A circular logo for Friends of Frankly

Frankly is an open source, agenda-driven video chat deliberation platform, primarily geared towards citizen assemblies, political bridging, and civic engagement more broadly.

Its development is based out of the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society, directed by Lawrence Lessig, founder of Creative Commons, Deliberations.us, and Equal Citizens. The platform is in beta and still has a lot of growing to do, but it has already been used in a variety of notable events, such as statewide policy deliberations with The Forum in NH, NV, and SC, and Newsweek and AllSides’ National Roundtable on Political Violence.

We’re asking for assistance with Frankly’s growth and development in a few key ways:

  • Participate at least once every three months with stress testing efforts on the platform – remotely joining an event along with others in order to gauge performance and usability
  • Select volunteers participating in optional user testing of Frankly’s new features and functionality as needed, either online or in-person
  • Answering survey questions related to your experiences with Frankly and other digital communication tools

Being a Friend of Frankly includes several perks:

  • Exclusive community space on Frankly for members, with invite-only events including figures in online civic deliberations and public interest technology
  • Stickers!
  • For in-person volunteers, free food (and potentially special swag)
  • The satisfaction of knowing you helped play a part in making a difference in promoting democracy
  • And more to come
