Updates from the Frankly Team
Hi all,
We’re excited to share our monthly updates on Frankly, a project out of the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Law School. Frankly is an open-source platform that reimagines digital space for public discourse.
We’re glad to have you here, and we’ll do our best to keep these emails worth opening. You can always update your preferences or unsubscribe from this list (if you must!).
If you have any questions, you can explore the Frankly Help Center or email hello@frankly.org to reach us directly.
July Highlights: Organizers Rule, Open Beta Ahead!
The team finished building the last of the major features on our list for beta, and we’re excited to share them with you.
The biggest change is that organizers now have more control over how participants are grouped. You decide how to sort people into breakouts, rather than choosing from a fixed set of options — so you can make sure all the right people are at the table. Hosts also have finer control over who is admitted to a conversation and when, ensuring your dialogue runs at your pace and with the appropriate mix of participants.
The app is faster across the board, there’s a mirrored self-view (so you see yourself the way you’re used to), buttons and navigation are clearer, and transcripts are now generated automatically in multiple languages.
Behind the scenes, we made further refinements to the platform’s timing, security, and documentation. Project managers, rejoice: for the first time in the project’s history, every known issue — internal or external — is documented and tracked.
With most of the feature work behind us, the next stretch is about testing and polish as we move toward open beta.
